Professor Melvin Revilla

Head Instructor | Melvin Revilla Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy USA

Black Belt | Since 2001

Professor Melvin Revilla began his Jiu-Jitsu journey in 1988 in Manaus, Brazil—a city known for producing some of the world’s top talent in the sport. What started as a way to gain discipline and self-control quickly became a lifelong passion. Over the years, he trained under some of Manaus’ most respected instructors, including Professor Falabella, the Monteiro brothers, and Cássio Façanha, before earning his black belt from Master Paulo Coelho in 2001.

His training was deeply influenced by legendary figures such as Rickson, Royce, and Royler Gracie, and his style reflects a strong foundation in traditional “old school” Jiu-Jitsu—focused on control, pressure, and efficiency. For Professor Melvin, Jiu-Jitsu is not just about competition, but about character, resilience, and respect.

In Manaus, he led the Melvin Revilla Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (MRBJJ) team for nearly two decades, building a reputation for excellence in both gi and No-Gi competition. His students consistently ranked at the top in regional events, and he became known for his effective, principle-based teaching style.

In 2017, Professor Melvin won gold at the IBJJF Seattle Open in the Masters 3 division, sparking the next chapter of his journey. He moved to the United States and eventually founded Melvin Revilla Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Bothell, WA, where he now leads with the same passion and dedication he’s carried throughout his career.

Today, Professor Melvin continues to pass on the values and techniques of traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, inspiring students of all ages and backgrounds to grow on and off the mats.
